Hidden Treasure in Missouri – Seven Places to Search

Each state has hidden treasure, and Missouri is no different. People from all walks of life are looking for, and finding lost treasures. Sometimes occur on them by accident. You can also find these treasures.

I know that construction workers are tearing down homes, suddenly found money or jewelry, or both.

People remodeling homes are finding hiding places in walls, under floors, in attics and basements. Although this type of unexpected finds are rare, many people are actively searching for hidden treasures. However, before these people ever set foot on a piece of property for research, investigated the first treasure.

Visiting local historical societies may be able to find the door of local treasures. Search through the files of old newspapers. Sometimes they have articles about buried treasure left by an old hermit, or rich businessman. Old newspapers are always given the counts of robbery and, sometimes, where the robbers may have buried their loot.

You know the elderly in a small town or village? They know everything that went on for years. Often like to talk about the past. You’ll be surprised what you can learn.

If you have a metal detector, is a good tool to use in searches. If you are thinking of buying one, do not buy an expensive detector. You can get by with a metal detector which costs between $ 300 – $ 450.

Over the past 30 years I have used the same techniques as I mentioned in this article to find hidden treasures. If you start following the story here, and then further your research, you can also find a lost treasure.

Here are seven areas to search for lost treasures in Missouri.

Defiance is about a mile north-west of the Missouri River on County Route 94. However, the city was originally located on the banks of the Missouri River. There were small cache of gold coins found near the ruins of ancient cities. Use a metal detector and search any area that is near and around the ruins.

St. Charles is located on the Missouri River, about 20 miles northwest of St. Louis. This ancient city was a popular site of the fur trade in early 1800. Over the years, many interesting relics and coins were found here. Sometimes just walking into an old neighborhood like this will provide you with relics like old bottles and pottery shards. Just as before, with a metal detector is a good idea.

Westport is located near Kansas City. In 1864, Union soldiers came near Westport. Fearing for their lives and homes, residents have entrusted their valuables to Father Bernard J. Donnelly of the Immaculate Conception Church. P. Donnelly possessions buried somewhere in or around the church or cemetery plot. Soon after, he died of a heart attack. The treasure, valued at approximately $ 75,000, was never found. Need more research this story by going to the local historical society and check their archives.

Big Lake is located about ten miles west of Mound City, USA 29.
The gold coins were discovered on the east bank of the Missouri River, near Big Lake. The coins can be from Caruthers WR steamship that sank nearby. It took $ 30,000 in gold coins. Just walk the beach after a storm you may be able to find a gold coin. However, using a metal detector that could detect not only the old coins, jewelry, but lost as well.

The Steamboat Sultana – La Sultana sank about two miles south of Big Lake. The Sultana was carrying $ 65,000 in gold coins. For this treasure is best to visit the library and historical society for more information. I would also like to use a metal detector on the beaches of this area as well. Old coins are washing ashore.

Doc Talbot Treasure Lynn – Doctor Lynn Talbot, a successful physician during the Civil War, buried a barrel full of gold coins somewhere on his property. A robber killed the Doc, because he has not revealed where the cache was buried. His house was known as the “House of Seven Gables.” It was located a few miles north of Barnard, on Highway 71. Again, using a metal detector in the house is the best way to search for this treasure. Be sure to ask permission first.

The Treasury Kaffer – supposedly a great treasure consists of gold coins buried close to Armstrong, on County Route 3. Like any treasure story, the research is a key. With this bit ‘of information on the Treasury Kaffer you should visit the local library and historical society for more information. Look through the files of old newspapers. Old newspapers have always had information about buried treasure.

It ‘important that you always ask permission when entering private property. If you are going to State or Federal Land, in search of lost treasures, be sure to check with other state of any excavation.
