For many, the Big Ben – the clock tower as it is commonly and erroneously known (it is actually the name of the bell inside) – is the most iconic image of London. A symbol of the Houses of Parliament, reminiscent of the debate in the rooms below, where 646 members and more than 700 bishops and Gentlemen loudly carry on the business of government. The nation expects to find midnight on December 31 to celebrate the start of each new year. Protesters against the state occasionally try to climb the 96m (315 feet) – and sometimes succeed.
Another name for the Parliament, the Palace of Westminster, alludes to the complex history of British democracy that has evolved over the centuries by the dominant domain of tribal chiefs, royalty and the Church in a government of elected representatives of the people. Thus, the medieval building that stood on the site until the 19th century, in which they were made the basis of the modern system of Edward I’s Model Parliament of 1295 was also the headquarters of British monarchs until 1530.
Survived the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 by a group of Catholics intent on blowing up the Protestant King James I in the Palace of Westminster was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1834. Westminster Hall, which dates back to 1097, has survived and is the oldest part of the building today.
William IV offered Buckingham Palace as a replacement, but the Parliament wanted to hang at the site of major river that William the Conqueror had made his base of nearly 800 years ago. Public debate on what the style should be used for the new building has been fierce. It should be a fitting emblem of a country with an empire on which “the sun never sets.” A neo-classical design, such as the White House or the U.S. Congress, was excluded because of connotations of revolutionary or a republican. In 1836, after studying 98 proposals, a Royal Commission chose Charles Barry’s plan for a Gothic palace that embody a welcome dose of conservatism.
Democracy in Britain has started to come of age in 1918 when the vote was given to all men 21 and women over 30, if women had to wait 10 years for equal rights. Even now continues to grow: in Tony Blair’s premiership, the power has been devolved to Scotland, Wales and Northem Ireland in 1999, while the shape of the Second Chamber, the House of Lords, is unstable.
UK residents can arrange free guided tours of Parliament for the whole year through their MP or a gentleman, visitors from abroad have to pay and can only tour during the summer when Parliament is in session, but may participate in discussions throughout the year. Both tours last about 75 minutes and includes the Houses of Commons and Lords debating, as well as the Queen’s Robing Room. The official opening of Parliament, where the reigning monarch presents the government’s plans for members of both the House of Lords and Commons, is a colorful ceremony usually takes place in November.

There are limits to what man can achieve. A phrase easily dismissed until you find one of those rare events that change the very perception of the human race. The moon landing was such, but even this is overshadowed by the sheer scale and extravagance of the absolute Burj Al Arab 7 * Hotel.
In the past I was staggered by the luxury that the likes of Bentley, Maybach and Rolls-Royce to provide. In my mind were the epitome of engineering, craftsmanship, style and indulgence. My God, how wrong I was.
The results monumental that these companies have repeatedly can not approach what it was created 15 miles south of Dubai. A building inside the Jumeirah artificial island that requires 250 foundation piles driven 40 meters deep to secure it. The Burj Al Arab is made up of 70,000 cubic meters of concrete, 9,000 tons of steel, 43,500 square feet of glass and a double skin of glass fiber braided Teflon ever used on a vertical structure.
Standing 280 meters from the coast and a staggering 321 meters tall, the Burj was designed in the image of a billowing sail to reflect the rich cultural history of the region. The effect is a sensational show that your eyes all the refuse to leave.
Upon arrival meet on an isolated island with a rotunda that houses the unique cascade of 20,000 liters Ellipse. This is no ordinary waterfall though, as the hotel that defies nature, combining the water with a wall of fire. This effect is complimented by the spectacular fire display Jumeirah, non-toxic gas propane fireballs, eight meters in diameter, have launched eight feet high, generating a great optical illusion as they are reflected on the glass hotel.
Perhaps the most eye-catching design is a heliport jutting out of the 28th floor. This architectural delight has hosted tennis matches for the likes of Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, Tiger Woods also was seen hitting a few shots off the tee into the Gulf.
Entering the hotel is a breathtaking experience. The Atrium is the worlds highest, reaching 180 meters gold with columns flanking a magnificent centerpiece of the most intricately designed never created a waterfall. The combination of finely atomized water with fiber optics to create a most unique kaleidoscope effect. Water & fog lights and float down the bows, while water is running an impressively choreographed movement unite in a rash shot to 42 feet high. The hotel has six world-renowned restaurants. ‘Al Muntaha’ is set at 200 meters above the bay. The Mediterranean cuisine and delicious cocktails match its breathtaking view. Even the panoramic lift in this exclusive restaurant is something special, which cover 6 meters per second.
‘Al Mahara’ has been voted one of the top ten hotel restaurants in the world. His menu reflects the input submarine developed, offering some of the most delicious fruits in the region. This is the signature restaurant of the Burj Al Arab is a choice of three private dining rooms or the main floor.
For the more traditional restaurant ‘Al Iwan’ offers some of the best in terms of Arab hospitality. Its stunning graphics and colors create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where dance directions for the authentic taste of the food areas.

While the coffee ‘Bab Al Yam’ is a more relaxing experience, to be enjoyed between the island oasis of greenery with beautiful sea view, the ‘Eddar Sahn’, set in the atrium room, is the ideal meeting place for fully appreciate the cascading water.
Now you will no doubt understand what I mean. Every little detail has been taken to a new level, nothing has gone untouched, nothing is simple and everything has been thought. The most disturbing fact is that throughout all that I have described so far is just to compliment the rooms … sorry ‘suite’.
Yes, the Burj Al Arab hotel is ‘all-suite’. For a facility of this size is a little ‘surprising that there are only 202 available, this in itself is a tribute to the uncompromising approach of our Arab friends. In the West could expect almost twice that number, but here, in the East, will do nothing to tarnish the sumptuous experience.
Size starts at 170sq m to 780sq m and salt. All suites have floor to ceiling windows featuring spectacular views and a technology to what is in the media space shuttle, including a TV capable of showing who is out the door with the touch of a button. Laptop computers and Internet access are, of course, included.
However, for the most prestigious clientele, there are two presidential suites and two Royal. These include a private elevator, private cinema, rotating beds, and even a conference room, not to mention the oversized locker rooms that the average hotel bedroom.
More comfortable luxury in the form of the ‘Assawan Spa’, located on the 18th floor. From here the picturesque landscapes of the Gulf can be enjoyed while enjoying the pools, jacuzzi and gym. While the decor recalls the ancient civilizations of the Middle East, the treatments are selected from around the world to offer guests a full range of pampering bliss.
So Ladies and Gentlemen, no doubt about six mouth watering at the thought of such an experience, but perhaps you should consider the cost before you commit to a run and indulgence weeks?
Prices start at around £ 500 per room per night and go up to around £ 15,000.

This is a must.
After all, where else can you go that contains about 8,000 square meters of 22 carat gold leaf and 24,000 square feet of marble that Michelangelo used for his sculptures? The Burj Al Arab is the ultimate in luxury, the height of design excellence, the experience of a lifetime.
